In this market, fuel cells are basically an alternative to batteries. While batteries discharge, fuel cells continue to generate electricity for as long as there is fuel supply ( hydrogen or methanol ).
Possible applications include power supply for small devices such as laptops and measuring devices as well as camping equipment.
Low-temperature fuel cells such as PEM fuel cells ( PEMFC ) and direct methanol fuel cells ( DMFC ) are particularly suited for small portable electrical appliances. They work even at low temperatures, have good cold-start performance and allow for a compact design. Water is the only ( waste ) product in PEMFC, while DMFCs generate low levels of CO2, in addition to water.
