Solar modules convert sunlight directly into electrical DC power. A solar array connects a large number of solar modules. An Inverter transforms the DC energy into 230 V AC or 400 three-phase AC power. So, the total amount of power produced from sunlight is fed into the household or directly into the utility grid.

Grid connected systems typically start at the size of around 1 kWp. Due to their modular basis, they have virtually no upper limit. The largest systems today have the size of several MWp.
